EgyGo

A trilingual directory connecting Egyptian service providers with customers across Canada — including right-to-left Arabic.

The brief.

A directory is only worth anything if people can search it in the language they think in. The Egyptian community across Canada uses English, French and Arabic, and Arabic is written right to left — which is not a translation problem, it is a layout problem. On top of that the site has two entirely separate audiences: customers looking for a provider, and providers wanting to be listed.

How it was decided

Three calls that shaped the site.

  • Three languages, one of them mirrored

Arabic is not a translation layer bolted onto a left-to-right design. The layout mirrors, which has to be planned into the structure from the beginning rather than patched in afterwards.

  • Search as the front door, categories as the fallback

Most people arrive knowing what they need and typing it. Category browsing matters for the ones who do not, but leading with it makes the confident majority work harder than they should.

  • Two products in one site

Finding a provider and becoming one are different jobs with different motivations. Both get a first-class path, because a directory with no providers has nothing to show customers.

What the build included.

  • Provider search and category browsing
  • English, French and Arabic with right-to-left support
  • Provider profiles
  • Provider sign-up flow
  • Responsive across phone, tablet and desktop
